Your CAF, not ours
Every order runs under the holder named on the client's 8821. Orders are labeled by client and case number.
Your practitioners keep working under their own CAF numbers. ModernTax handles the IRS legwork around them: uploading 8821s, waiting on the Practitioner Priority line, booking callbacks and attaching transcripts to the right case.
You keep the authorization, the client relationship and the CAF. We take over the slow parts between a signed 8821 and the transcripts on your desk.
Every order runs under the holder named on the client's 8821. Orders are labeled by client and case number.
The holder signs in with ID.me once. Our agent uploads every waiting signed 8821 and checks when each one posts.
Our agent calls the Practitioner Priority line and books the callback to your holder's phone, inside the hours they set.
Transcripts are picked up from the holder's SOR mailbox and attached to the right case by tax ID.
Start with one holder, run one real case end to end, then invite the rest the same way. Each step shows the screen and what to do on it. Click through; nothing here is saved.
Loaded from the roster you send us: each holder's name, CAF number, callback phone, office address and call hours. Enter a holder's work email to send their sign-in link.
The holder gets "You've been invited to ModernTax" with a link to set a password. The link signs them in the first time.

Two-step sign-in onEncrypted when saved and never displayed again: not to the holder, the firm owner, or ModernTax staff. Used only when the IRS needs it during a call or a transcript pull.
On a Practitioner Priority call the IRS verifies the practitioner. The holder enters their SSN and date of birth once and gives consent; both are stored encrypted and spoken only to the IRS on that holder's calls.

3 signed 8821s are waiting to go to the CAF unit. Sign in with ID.me once; the agent fills in and uploads each one at irs.gov, then checks when it posts.
The case sits in the holder's queue with their CAF on it. New clients go through step 6 first.
When the 8821 is on the CAF file, the agent requests transcripts through TDS under the holder's own access, and they often come back in minutes.
For anything TDS can't return, the agent calls the PPS line inside the holder's hours and books a callback. It waits on hold and connects the holder when an IRS agent picks up.
The pickup agent opens the holder's SOR mailbox with them, attaches each transcript to the right case by tax ID, and completes the order.

Once the first case completes, go back to Ready to invite and enter the other holders' emails. Each one repeats steps 2 to 4.
Offboard removes access immediately. Their open cases come back to you to reassign; the 8821 names the old holder's CAF, so the new holder may need a new signed 8821.
Screens are illustrations of the live portal. The firm, holders, CAF numbers, phone numbers, taxpayers and case numbers are invented.
One roster and one first case. We load the roster for you, so the firm owner only types email addresses.
Each holder's name, CAF number, callback phone, office address and the hours they can take IRS calls.
Start with one practitioner. They set up two-step sign-in and their IRS identifiers in about ten minutes.
A real client, ideally one already on that holder's CAF file, so the first case runs end to end on the setup call.
Send us your CAF roster and we'll run your first case with you, live.
